Basketry is a great project.

I have taught hundreds of 4th grade students and they love it. It's a hands-on project with few rules and lots of room for individuality.

Use this manual, step-by-step, and with a little preparation and some parent helpers, it is an extremely rewarding project for all involved.

Each child will make his/her own basket and learn a little about the history and usefulness of baskets in general.

This book contains detailed written instructions, pictures, a list of suppliers, and general information on teaching a group of students in a classroom environment.

Kits are available.

They include everything needed for one basket. All the preparations are done for you. Just open the package, put the contents in the water to soak, and start weaving.

Wicker Basket Kit

Larger than the Sweets Basket, but still constructed completely by twining. This basket takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Sweets Basket Kit

Since we don’t need too many sweets, this basket is small and can be completed in about 1 1/2 hours.
